Delaware River Report: May 26, 2022
We had a little more sun in the afternoon than the forecast called for but the caddis were active along with a few mayflies. Some people are picking up fish blind casting March Brown and Gray fox patterns. The fishing seemed better early in the evening rather than late – at least on some sections. The river flows are starting off this morning about the same as yesterday. Caddis, March Browns, Gray Fox, Cahills, and sulphurs are on the water. Some sections are still seeing the remnants of the Hendrickson spinners. Today will be 74 degrees, mainly cloudy, with wind 10 – 20 from the South

Delaware River Report: May 24, 2022
The cooler nights have helped the river temps. Most rivers are starting off a few degrees cooler than yesterday. The flows have dropped a bit from the runoff subsiding and everything looks good this morning. We should se a mix of clouds and sun early changing to mostly clouds in the afternoon. 70 degrees with wind 5 – 10 mph from the south. It looks like a good day to be on the water. We’ve been fishing a mix of caddis and spinners early with more mayflies in the afternoon into the evening. March browns, f=gray fox, sulphurs, and cahills are making up most o the hatch. The colder river sections are still seeing some #16 Hendricksons.

The flows are up slightly from yesterday’s storms but the rivers are still at decent levels for wading. The West Branch is clear and 675 cfs at Hale Eddy. The weather has cooled down and we should see the air temp peak at 68 degrees with a mix of clouds and sun. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North. There have been caddis and spinners on the calm mornings. The hatching was good after the first storm passed through. It shut down after the second storm towards dark. March Browns, gray fox, sulphurs, olives, and cahills are now on the water.

Delaware River Report: May 22, 2022
Yesterday was as advertised – hot and sunny. Most of the early dry fly action was on caddis and morning spinners. Nymphing was best during the heat of the day but there were some hatches again in the evening. Tan and apple caddis, march browns, sulphurs, and a few cahills are making up the bulk of the hatch. The release from Cannonsville was bumped slightly to 450 cfs. Today will start off sunny with some afternoon storms. We’ll hit 88 degrees with wind from the south 10 – 20 mph. We’ll cool down overnight. The lower East Branch, Beaverkill, and Mainstem at Lordville all peaked just under 70 degrees yesterday and are starting off in the mid 60’s today. If you plan to fish those rivers this afternoon check the temps first.

Delaware River Report: May 21, 2022
We had some additional rain again yesterday afternoon and again overnight but the river flows were unaffected. We’re pretty much starting off the same as yesterday morning. The warmer weather has bumped up the water temps a few degrees so check the temps if you’re fishing down the mainstem this afternoon. Caddis, march browns, sulphurs, and a few cahills have made up the bulk of the bugs. We are still seeing some hendrickson spinners in the evening. Summer weather will be back today with sunshine and the air temp hitting 90 degrees. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: May 20, 2022
We had an afternoon rainstorm that bumped the river flows slightly but every river is still in decent shape for wading. Yesterday’s wind wasn’t as bad as forecasted and the caddis came out with the sun. The march brown hatch seems to be improving a bit and the sulphurs are making there way up river. There are a few leftover hendricksons and hendrickson spinners in the evening too. Today will be warmer hitting 79 degrees. We may see .25″ of rain from some afternoon thunderstorms with wind 10 – 20 from the South.

Delaware River Report: May 19, 2022
This is the cool time of year when you can fish the Hendrickson Remnants on some river sections and move to fish the sulphurs on other river sections. Plus a lot of caddis and a few march browns in the mix. It seemed to take a while to get going yesterday but most people found rising fish. We have light rain falling this morning that should total less than 1/10″. 70 degrees with wind 10 – 15 from the south. The wind may shift from the West in the afternoon. We may see some afternoon thunderstorms. there are no weather warnings on those so hopefully they slide south of us like usual.

The wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North today. We’ll see 66 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds. That’s the real story after yesterday’s 20 mph wind. The rivers fished during the lulls with caddis, small hendricksons, and a few march browns. The wind made nymphing a good option by default when it was blowing. The runoff has pretty much subsided on the Eastern side of the drainage and the Beaverkill flow has dropped back under 500 cfs. It’s time to have some sulphurs in your box just in case. They can’t be too far off.

Delaware River Report: May 17, 2022
Yesterday’s storms were scattered and a bit unpredictable. We had breif perids of rain and wind on the lower West Branch while other people had measurable amounts of hail. Overall the flows look good this morning with slight increases from runoff. The rivers are already dropping this morning. The West Branch is clear and still fine for wading and floating. The march brown hatch is picking up and we’re still seeing hendricksons, apple caddis, tan caddis, and a few quill gordons on the colder water sections. The hatching was decent on some rivers in between the rain. We’re going to be much cooler today with the air temp only hitting 63 degrees. That and the cooler night will help the water temps on the lower river sections. A mix of clouds and sun with wind 10 – 20 from the North as this front pushes through.

Delaware River Report: May 16, 2022
We had some rain late in the evening that bumped the flows on the Eastern drainage. Not much but something. It wasn’t enough to bump the flow on the West Branch and we are tarting off about the same as yesterday. Today will be cooler hitting 74 degrees. We may see some severe thunderstorms with high winds and maybe even some hail so keep that in mind while planning your day and have a safe out. Hopefully the heavy storms miss us. The march brown hatch is picking up (that one is usually a bit sporadic) and we’re still seeing hendricksons, apple caddis, tan caddis, and a few quill gordons on the colder water sections. The water temp in Callicoon peaked at 70 degrees again yesterday so if you’re fishing down river check the temps first.

We had a little rain overnight that gave the Beaverkill flow a slight bump. The rest of the system is starting off about the same as yesterday. We do have decent cloud cover this morning that may develop in to a few storms this afternoon. The rainfall total looks negligible again. 77 degrees with wind 5 – 10 mph from the south. Hendricksons, apple caddis, and march browns / gray fox are on the water. We’re seeing some of the tan Hydropsyche caddis show too. The cloud cover and rain may push some olives too. There have been some spinner falls and caddis in the mornings on the hot days. The bugs seem to be coming in flushes in the afternoon. The water temp in Callicoon peaked at 70 degrees yesterday so if you’re fishing down river check the temps first.
