Delaware River Report: April 24, 2025

We’re in for another warm day that should push the water temps again. The wind will be low again which should help get the caddis active early. We’re seeing better bugs with Blue Quills, olives, Hendricksons, little black caddis, and some Quill Gordons on the water. A few river sections are seeing apple caddis. There were so many caddis hitting the windshield on Route 97 it seemed like it was raining. Pretty much have every early Spring bug in your box ready to go.

Delaware River Report: April 23, 2025

The water temps are starting a little higher on most of the rivers after yesterdays warm weather. They should climb more today with the bright sun. The best part of today will be dealing with half the wind we had yesterday. The dry fly fishing is getting better with Hendricksons, Quill Gordons, Blue Quills, little black caddis, and Quill Gordons. The caddis could play a larger role today due to the lower wind. Some river sections are a little ahead but it should all even out over the next few days.

Delaware River Report: April 22, 2025

The dry fly fishing is picking up wit the warmer water temps. Blue Quills, olives, little black caddis, a few Quill Gordons, and a few Hendricksons are all in the mix now. The wind has still been a bit of a problem but the bugs are there and the fish are eating them. Nymphing has been good before the hatches start. We have more warm weather coming over the next few days and the weekend is looking good.

Delaware River Report: April 21, 2025

The wind made things tough yesterday but there were some breaks that allowed people to capitalize on caddis and some mayflies. The air temps look great this week and we should see the water temps hit good numbers in the afternoon. that should push the Blue Quills and Hendricksons. There are olives and Quill Gordons out there too. The caddis have been active in the mornings before the wind picks up and in the afternoons if the wind drops.

Today will be 60 degrees with partially cloudy skies becoming cloudier in the afternoon. Wind will be 10 – 20 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: April 20, 2025

People had some success dry fly fishing yesterday. Olives, little black caddis, Blue Quills, and even a few Hendricksons showed up. The wind was tough but there were enough breaks that the let the fish get happy. Nymphing also worked during the windy periods. A few decent thunderstorms pushed through in the late afternoon. The river flows bumped slightly from the rain but not enough to be noticeable. Today will be cooler but still respectable at 56 degrees. Wind may be an issue again but hopefully we get some breaks again.

Delaware River Report: April 19, 2025

We had the bugs. Yesterday some river sections saw a mix of Hendricksons, Blue Quills, Olives, and Stoneflies. There were also some little black caddis around. The heavy winds pretty much defeated everyone and forced a nymphing day. Water temps look great, the bugs are getting better and better, and the rivers are in good shape for wading and floating. We just need a break from the wind. The river temps are up this morning and should climb today despite the clouds and light rain. Try to hide from the wind. It’s tough to hide without the leaves on the trees but look for sheltered edges, side channels, and bends below islands.

Today will be 80 degrees with cloudy skies. We may see some scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. Total rainfall should be .1″. Wind will be 10 – 20 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: April 18, 2025

Yesterday people landed fish on nymphs, streamers, and dries. The water temps are in great shape and it feels like things are really starting to happen. We’ll have some wind to contend with but the bright sun and warm air temp should push the water temps even higher today. It’s cool this morning but should warm up a little quicker today. Olives, small black caddis, and stoneflies should be out. We should see a few blue quills start to pop any day now.

Delaware River Report: April 17, 2025

We’re back on a warming trend and everything looks great trough the weekend. We’ll have some wind to deal with but that’s a small price to pay to have air temps back in the 50’s to 60’s. The water temps are starting off today a bit low due to the cold and cloud cover yesterday. The air temp and the sunshine today should push them back up by mid afternoon. Olives, little black caddis, and stoneflies should be out. Look for wind protected areas and take advantage of any breaks. Blue Quills should start to show with this warmer weather. Nymphing or streamers will be the best bets early.

Delaware River Report: April 16, 2025

There is a light dusting of snow in the higher elevations but the river valley is clear this morning. We’ll be a bit colder today with wind so pick your spot accordingly. If the wind forecast is correct today will be a nymph and streamer day. We warm back up tomorrow and should see the sun. We have seen fish eating midges, stoneflies, and olives on the days with no wind so that should pick up as the weather gets nicer. Blue Quills shouldn’t be too far off.

Today will be 41 degrees with clouds and a few scattered snow showers. We should not see any accumulation. Wind will be 10 – 20 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: April 15, 2025

The water temps bumped up quite a bit yesterday and are starting off in good shape this morning. The West Branch at the 191 Bridge is 47 degrees at 6:30 am. There were quite a few stoneflies and little black caddis in the air yesterday but not a lot hit the water. There were a few olives here and there too. A few people saw some rising fish but nymphs and streamers are what brought the fish to the net. The wind will be back today so try to find some protected areas.

Today will be 57 degrees with cloudy skies. We may see some showers this afternoon. Total rainfall should be .09″. Wind will be 10 – 20 mph from the West.

Delaware River Report: April 14, 2025

Today looks like a beautiful day to be on the water with decent air temps and less wind than we’ve seen in a while. The water temps should bump by mid afternoon despite the clouds. That could push some olives and bring the caddis off the bushes. Blue Quills can’t be far off so definitely have some in your box. Yesterday was a bit unsettled but there were some nice periods when the sun would poke through the clouds. Nymphing and streamers were still the best options.

Delaware River Report: April 13, 2025

Today will be much warmer which is a welcome change. There is no snow in the forecast. The warmer next few days should help bump the water temps and hopefully push the hatches. The feeder streams are up a bit from yesterdays rain but it shouldn’t be noticeable on the West Branch. We’re still at decent levels for wading and floating. The wind will be up a bit so try to find protected areas with good slow foam lines. It’s still early in the season so nymphing and streamers will be the best choices but we are seeing some olives, little black caddis, and stoneflies.
