River Reports
Delaware River Report: April 11, 2023
The reservoir spills are essentially over. Cannonsville is only spilling 25 cfs this morning. The release is 1,499 cfs. We’ll stay high until they cut the release back. Hopefully they are creating a small void and drop us back to normal releases soon. The Beaverkill and Willowemoc are in the great shape for wading. The tailwaters are still best fished from a boat. The lower water should definitely help the dry fishing. It’s mostly stoneflies and little black caddis but have some dark blue winged olives with you just in case. Nymphing and streamers are still your best bet – especially if the wind picks up.
Today will be nicer than yesterday hitting 69 degrees with sunshine. We may get some clods in the afternoon along with the wind 10 – 20 mph from the West.

Delaware River Report: April 10, 2023
The West and East Branches dropped slightly but still remain high. There is only 156 cfs spilling over Cannonsville. The release is 1,499 cfs. The spill won’t last much longer so the flow will come down to the release over the next couple of days. We should see wadeable water on the West Branch this week. Yesterday turned out to be a beautiful day with little holiday traffic on the water.Nymphs and streamers are the best bets still but we’re hearing more people finding fish on stoneflies and little black caddis. The dry fly fishing will improve as the water drops and warms up a bit.
Today should be beautiful hitting 63 degrees with “plentiful sunshine” according to Wunderground. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: April 9, 2023
The West Branch and East Branch have dropped a little more overnight but are still too high to wade. The Beaverkill and Willowemoc are finally hitting nice wade levels. Nymphing and streamers are your best bet but there are some rising fish in the afternoons. It’s hard to count on yet but we are finding some. It’s still mostly stoneflies and little black caddis. Hopefully the water continues to drop and warms up a bit pushing the olives.
Today will look a lot like yesterday hitting 55 degrees with sunshine. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North. The 10 day forecast looks great with warm air temps and no rain until Sunday. That should definitely help the fishing this week.

Delaware River Report: April 8, 2023
The West Branch and East Branch have both dropped a few hundred cfs overnight but still remain high. The Beaverkill dropped under 1,000 cfs and will now offer some wade opportunities along with the Willowemoc. The wind was rough yesterday with a raw windchill. Nymphs and streamers till but there were a few fish eating on top. Stoneflies and little black caddis are making up the bulk of the bugs we’re seeing. The wind made holing anchor tough during the gusts.
The wind won’t be an issue today at 5 – 10 mph from the North. We’ll hit 50 degrees with sunshine and a just a few clouds. It looks like a really pleasant day to be on the water.

Delaware River Report: April 7, 2023
The release from Cannonsville was increased to 1,326 cfs bumping the West Branch flow up a few hundred cfs. The other rivers are dropping slowly but remain high. Floating is still the best and only option the tailwaters. Wading is best on the smaller streams. That won’t change until the reservoirs stop spilling. There is no rain on the 10 day forecast so hopefully the flows will drop early next week. We’re still finding some fish in the late afternoon eating stoneflies and caddis. The dry fly is still a bit inconsistent and spot specific with the high flows but some people are getting lucky. It will improve once we see more mayflies on the water and lower flows. Streamers and nymphs are still the best bet to put fish in the net.
Today will be cooler hitting 45 degrees. We’ll have sunshine which will help. The wind won’t seem to leave us and will be 10 – 20 mph from the North.

The West Branch flow has increased about 500 cfs this morning. It is already dropping at Hale Eddy but will remain high. The bump is mostly runoff from some overnight rain. The East Branch flow is sill dropping slowly but also remains high. Both reservoirs are spilling so the rivers are in great shape to float. Wading will be best and safest on the smaller headwater streams. Not much has changed over the last few days. Nymphing and streamers will be your best bets. There will be some dry fly shots with stoneflies and caddis in the long, slow pools. It just about being in the right place at the right time.
Today ;ooks a little nicer than yesterday with the air temp hitting 66 degrees, overcast, and just .04″ of rain. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South. That’s a welcome change.

The East and West Branch flows continue to drop slowly. Both reservoirs are still spilling so they remain too high for wading. If you’re wading stick to the headwater streams. Floating is fine. Yesterdays sunshine and warm air temp helped the water temps climb to the highest we’ve seen this Spring. There are some little black caddis and stoneflies around in the afternoon. Your best bet is still going to be nymphs and streamers but people have been finding some rising fish in the long slow pools.
Today will be cooler than yesterday hitting 56 degrees. We should have cloud cover with a negligable .04″ of rain. The wind will be back at 10 – 20 mph from the South. The hourly shows mostly 10 mph with some gusts. Hopefully the wind drops in the afternoon.

The big rivers continue to drop slowly but remain to high to wade. The headwater streams and the Willowemoc are much better and safer choices if you’re not floating. We had decent sunshine yesterday afternoon and a warm night so the water temps are starting of a few degrees warmer today. The were a lot of little black caddis in the air yesterday afternoon so you can get lucky on dries in the long slow pools. Nymphing and streamers are still your best bet at these flows. The dry fly action will get better once the flows drop to normal levels.
Today should be absolutely beautiful hitting 70 degrees with sunshine. wind will be the lowest we’ve seen in a while at only 5 – 10 mph from the South. Ovenight temps will stay in the 50’s with a negligible .05″ of rain.

The rivers have dropped slightly but remain to high to wade. Both Cannonsville and Pepacton are still spilling and the Beaverkill is high with runoff. Boating is fine. If you’re wading stick to the small headwater streams. There are some small black caddis mixed with the stoneflies. Your best bet for rising fish is the tailouts of the long slow pools. Nymphs and streamers are still a much better bet.
The wind was rough yesterday and the cooler air temp didn’t help. We had some breaks in the afternoon that were pleasant. Today will be much warmer hitting 60 degrees with some sunshine. We can’t escape the wind and we should see 0 – 20 mph from the South. It should drop in the late afternoon – hopefully before dark.

Delaware River Report: April 2, 2023
The West Branch flow dropped slightly and the East Branch flow increased. Both Cannonsville and Pepacton Reservoirs are spilling. The Beaverkill flow increased quite a bit. There is a lot of water in the system. If you’re wading today stick to the small headwater streams. And be careful on those with the runoff. We’ll be colder today hitting 42 degrees with some sunshine poking through. The wind will stay with us again today at 10 – 20 mph from the North.
Yesterday ended up being a pleasant one. We had some breaks in the wind and the sun felt great. Nymphing was the most effective technique but we did find some fish willing to eat streamers. There were actually some fish rising in the late afternoon in the big long pools that had water slow enough the fish could set up. The wind made keeping the boat on anchor tough. But it was nice to see on April 1st.

Delaware River Report: April 1, 2023
We’re starting off 2023 with high flows. It looks like both Cannonsville and Pepacton Reservoirs are spilling. Floating is fine. If you’re wading look to the smaller rivers and creeks today. We were seeing some stonefly dry fly action before the spill. That should pick up again once the water levels return to normal. Streamers and nymphs will be your best bet. There are a few alewives on the banks of the West Branch. We’re not seeing the numbers of them that we did last year because the spill is less, but there are definitely some in the river.
Today is going to be much warmer than we’ve seen lately with the air temp hitting 68 degrees. There are potential thunderstorms in the afternoon and wind will be 15 – 20 mph from the South.
