River Reports
Delaware River Report: July 19, 2023
The aqueduct work has been pushed off again. It is now scheduled for Fall of 2024.
The rivers are looking good this morning with decent flows for floating and wading. The West is clear and looking good. The lower East and Main still had color yesterday afternoon but should clear enough to fish smallmouth for the weekend if we don’t get additional rain. The best bet for daytime dry fly is in Deposit with small sulphurs and olives. It should pick up on the lower West as the sun drops in the evening. Some people are doing well with streamers early an late in the day.
The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and Mainstem at Lordville will peak over 70 degrees today. It’s time to give these sections a break and fish the colder water.
Today will be 80 degrees with clouds in the morning and clearing in the afternoon. We may have some smoke and haze. Wind will be light and variable.

The bugs may push a little earlier with the cloud cover and potential rain. The East and Main are still off color.

Now that the flow has dropped and the river is clear we should see some sulphurs and Isonychias on the lower West as the sun drops. The East Branch / Beaverkill got hit with additional rain and the flows are way up this morning. The flow at Downsville is 135 cfs. The feeder streams are still pumping a lot of water over there and the flow at Harvard is 908 cfs.
The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and Mainstem at Lordville will peak over 70 degrees today. It’s time to give these sections a break and fish the colder water.

Delaware River Report: July 16, 2023
The aqueduct work has been pushed off again. It is now scheduled for Fall of 2024.
12:30 update. The off color water has reached the lower West Branch. Hopefully any additional rain misses us and we can start to clear
We were hit with more rain overnight and the flow at Hale Eddy is 1,300 cfs and climbing. Homepool is off color. The West Branch above Oquaga Creek hasn’t budged and is running low and clear with a 500 cfs release. We should have the normal midday sulphurs and small olives up there again today. The lower West is looking good for streamers with a possibility of some dry fly fishing later in the afternoon if we stay clear. There is a potential for heavy thunderstorms so keep an eye on the radar. A lot of them slide around us but we’ve been hit a couple of times already this week.
The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and Mainstem at Lordville will peak over 70 degrees today. It’s time to give these sections a break and fish the colder water.
Today will be 80 degrees with a mostly cloudy sky in the morning and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

The aqueduct work has been pushed off again. It is now scheduled for Fall of 2024.
8:30 am update. The lower West is more off color now than it was at 6 am. The off color water should push through and begin to clear this afternoon
We were hit with some thunderstorms overnight and the river flows are up there morning. The West Branch at Hale Eddy has peaked and is already dropping. We’re are flowing at 1,240 cfs at Hale so there are some wade opportunities but the best wading will be above Oquaga Creek. The flow at Stilesville only bumped 7 cfs to 488 cfs and should be clear. There are mid day sulphurs and small olives in Deposit. The mid to lower West should fish well with streamers early. We should still get some evening sulphurs and Isonychias as the sun drops.

The aqueduct work has been pushed off again. It is now scheduled for Fall of 2024.
We had some rain overnight and the flows are up slightly this morning. Oquaga Creek ha a;ready peaked at 60 cfs and is beginning to drop. The West Branch should peak soon and begin to drop too. The flow at Hale Eddy is still under 700 cfs and is in decent shape for wading and floating. Homepool is clear. We may see some additional storms this afternoon. Keep an eye on the radar to see where they’re tracking. Streamers are working well in low light. Small sulphurs, olives, and Isonychias are making up the bulk of the hatches.

The release form Cannonsville is a steady 500 cfs. The rivers are dropping from the rain and the flows have pretty much leveled out. We have some cloud cover this morning with another afternoon of potential thunderstorms. total rainfall should be .15″. We’re seeing the mid day sulphurs and olives in Deposit. It would make sense to have a couple of Isonychias in your box too The bugs have been hatching later on the lower West Branch with a mix of olives, Isonychias, a few sulphurs, and a few cahills. The algae is still bad on the upper river so if you’re nymphing stay below Hale Eddy.

Another day in July and another chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Total rainfall should be a negligible .16″ but the clouds will be welcome after yesterday. Most of these storms slide around us on the West Branch anyway but keep an eye on the radar justin case. The best bet for dry fly fishing during the day will be in Deposit with a mix of sulphurs, blue wing olives, and a few Isonychias. The lower West has less algae is the best bet for nymphing. The West Branch looks fine this morning despite yesterday’s rain. The flow at Hale Eddy is 643 cfs – so only about 30 cfs higher than yesterday morning. Homepool is clear. The flows are up more in the Eastern drainage. The West should fish like normal with daytime sulphur and olive opportunities in Deposit and evening dry fly opportunities with Isonychias, cahills, and a few sulphurs on the lower west once the sun starts to drop. If we do get rain the bugs could push earlier on the lower West. Nymphing is still best on the lower West due to the algae in the upper river,

If Wunderground is correct we should see .64″ of rain today with an additional .86″ overnight. If the water turns off color streamer fishing couldbe very good. And keep an eye on the Stilesville gauge. The West Branch above Oquaga Creek generally stays in good shape regardless of any weather event. Plus it’s always hard to predict the paths of thunderstorms up here so keep an eye on the radar, We have some midday sulphurs and olives in Deposit. Nymphing is best on the lower West due to the algae in the upper river. Isonychias, olives, and a few cahills on the lower West.

Yesterday we were hit by some isolated storms that colored the West Branch.
