Delaware River Report: July 1, 2022
There was a quick pulse of an extra 100 cfs from Cannonsville overnight. This was done to keep the Mainstem at Lordville from hitting 75 degrees. The flow at Stilesville has already dropped back to normal. Yesterday was another sunny so it fished a lot like normal summer conditions. There is some daytime activity on the upper river sections. Mostly sulphurs with a few cahills. The lower West Branch has been good as the sun drops with a mix of sulphurs, cahills, and a few Isonychias. Nymphing and wet flies have worked better midday. Today will be warmer hitting 89 degrees. Hopefully Wunderground is correct and we’ll see cloud cover. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the South. There is a slight chance of a stray thunderstorm.
The East Branch at Fishs Eddy, The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, and the Mainstem at Lordville all peaked over 70 degrees yesterday. It’s time to give these sections a break until we get cooler temps.

Yesterday was another sunny day and it fished that way. Nymphing or wets early with most of the hatching happening as the sun dropped. Sulphurs, cahills, and small olives were on the water. A few Isonychias were hatching sporadically so keep an eye out for them too. If you don’t feel like nymphing try blind casting Iso patterns in the riffles. Your best shot at daytime dry fly action on sunny days will be the sections with the coldest water. You will find some sulphurs hatching. Not a super strong hatch yet but some. Today will be 83 degrees, partly cloudy (so sunshine), with wind 5 – 10 mph from the North.
The East Branch at Fishs Eddy, The Beaverkill at Cooks Falls, and the Mainstem at Lordville all peaked close to 70 degrees yesterday. Even with the cooler weather it’s time to give these sections a break until we get cooler temps.

The best shot at dry fly fishing has been in the evening as the sun starts to drop. Sulphurs, cahills, and small olives are making up the bulk of the bugs. The rain stopped early yesterday and the clouds definitely burned off early than we’d hoped. We ended up with another bright and sunny day. So it’s fishing like normal Summer conditions. The bet dry fly action during the day will be in the river sections with the coldest water. Slightly warmer river sections will fish best with nymphs and wets during the day and turn on with dries towards dark and even after dark. Sulphurs, Cahills, and Olives are making up most of the bugs. We are seeing a few yellow sallys and caddis in the afternoon.

We woke up to a little rain this morning but so far it hasn’t been enough to affect the rivers. The cloud cover and cooler air temp that came with the rain are certainly welcome. Yesterday was bright and warm. There were some bugs early but most people seemed to do better as the sun dropped. The weather kept the bugs sparser than what we’ve seen. Hopefully today’s weather change pushes them earlier in the day. Small olives, sulphurs, cahills, and a few caddis are making up the bulk of the hatch.

Another sunny and warm day but there were fish to be found when the bugs were out.
It looks like they pulsed the release overnight to cool the river, though it’s back down to its regular flow now. The Lower East Branch, Beaverkill and Main Stem had higher temperatures yesterday and with an identical forecast today they will remain hotter than we like. We are expecting some rain overnight which will help cool down the rivers and the air temperature. Look for shade today or wait until the sun dips below the hills.

Delaware River Report: June 25, 2022
Yesterday was bright and sunny – feeling very much like summer. During the day, the fish were harder to find, but still willing to eat. If you waited until the evening, there were more opportunities for surface feeding. Today looks to be a another summer day, with sun and temperatures in the 80s. The Beaverkill and Main Stem are starting out warmer today so be mindful of the water temps. Bring your thermometer or head closer to the dams for cooler water. Expect to see the early summer selection of sulphurs, cahills and olives. Maybe an Iso in the mix, too.

The rivers stayed off color for most of yesterday but the rain subsided by mid-day. It was a good day to try streamers and look for rising fish as the water started clearing. There is still some higher water out there today, especially on the Main Stem but that will continue to drop. Home Pool has cleared and looks great. Today we’ll be warm and sunny, with some slight winds. Look for rising fish in the shade during the day and be ready for the evening hatches. We’re still seeing sulphurs, olives and cahills on the water. Sometimes all at once!

9:30 am update: The feeder streams are adding color to the West Branch and we’re seeing mud in Home Pool.
The rain held off until after dark. We have some light rain falling this morning but so far everything looks fine. It looks like the releases were bumped up a bit and the flow at Stilesville is 522 cfs as of 5:30 am. The West Branch looks clear out front. We may see an additional half inch of rain over the course of the day that may affect the feeder streams. If we really only get 1/2″ it will soak right into the ground. If anything drastic happens to the river we’ll do a mid day update. Otherwise we’re looking at 65 degrees and wind 5 – 10 mph from the South. Olives, sulphurs, and cahills will be the main hatches. If the feeders do add color to the water it should make for decent streamer fishing.

Delaware River Report: June 22, 2022
Yesterday’s rain missed us and the rivers are starting out today at pretty much the same flows and temps as yesterday. We had decent sulphur and cahills in the late afternoon and evening. There are still caddis around but sulphur and cahill emergers seemed to be what the fish were looking for. If you see decent hatching and no fish on top try swinging your emerger patterns. We have a bit of sun this morning but we should see good cloud cover roll in with the possibility of some afternoon showers. We should only see .02″ of rain with bit more coming overnight. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the South.

We should see some rain this morning totaling under 1/4″. That shouldn’t do much to the river flows but the rain and clouds could definitely push some bugs. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South and the air temp will hit 75 degrees. Sounds like a good day to be on the water. With that weather report have your olives handy. There is also a chance it will push the sulphur and cahill hatches a little earlier in the afternoon. And always Isonychias and caddis this time of year. Yesterday was a bit spotty on timing but most people saw some kind of sulphur hatch. Some of the eats are very subtle so keep a close eye on likely lies and be patient.

The wind is only going to be 5 – 10 mph out of the North today. That’s going to be a welcome change after the last two days. Yesterday was tough during the day but the wind dropped in the evening and people did find fish on sulphurs and cahills. Isonychias are definitely around and blind casting high floating patterns have put some fish in the net. Nymphing had worked before the hatches and don’t overlook swinging wets.
