River Reports
Delaware River Report: May 9, 2025
We woke up to some rain that should stay with us most all day. It’s not a heavy rain right now but will end up being a good amount by tonight. The release from Cannonsville is 40 cfs with roughly 3,500 cfs spilling over the top. As of 6 am the West Branch flow at Hale Eddy has actually dropped. That will change as the rain fill the feeders. The spill will also likely increase if the rain hits above the reservoir. It looks like Pepacton is also now spilling and the East Branch at Downsville flow is climbing. We have quite a bit or rain the forecast so keep an eye on the radar and the flows. There is a flood watch issued for our area. The rivers are not safe to wade. If you’re floating use your best judgement. The flows listed below are at 6 am. Click on the gauge links for the latest updates.
Today will be 51 degrees with rain. Total rainfall should be 1.2″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: May 8, 2025
The release from Cannonsville is 40 cfs with 3,651 cfs spilling over the top. The flows are dropping back but remain high. The Eastern drainage is dropping quicker. The West Branch is dropping slower due to the spill. Water clarity is improving and the rivers are fishable today from a boat. Wading is still not an option. There have been bus on some river sections even in the high water so bring a dry fly rod just in case. it’s mostly going to be a streamer / nymph game but someone may get lucky and find some fish on the edges or tail outs of the slow pools. We have more rain in the forecast over the next two days but hopefully the storms slide around us. The forecast continues to change everytime we look so keep an eye on the radar.
Today will be 62 degrees and partly cloudy. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: May 7, 2025
We got hit hard with rain again yesterday afternoon. The release from Cannonsville is 40 cfs with 2,423 cfs spilling over the top. All of the rivers are high and off color. There is no safe wading in the system. Hopefully any additional rain misses us. Aside from the reservoir spill there is a lot of water coming in from the feeders. If there are no debris floating down creating danger spots floating is possible if you’re confident on the oars. Just be very careful
Today will be 64 degrees with possible afternoons showers. Total rainfall during the day should be .03″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the West.

Delaware River Report: May 6, 2025
10:30 am update: The spill over Cannonsville has increased dramatically and will be too high for wading
The release from Cannonsville is 320 cfs with 212 cfs spilling over the top. That will bring the water temps up slightly in Stilesville. The rivers have dropped quite a bit since yesterday but the only real wade opportunity is above Oquaga Creek. Keep an eye on the Stilesville gauge to make sure the spill doesn’t increase much throughout the day. The lower East and West Branch still have quite a bit of color but are fishable. The lower Main is muddier than the upper river sections. Watch the radar this afternoon. Hopefully the storms slide around us. It’s likely a streamer / nymph day but we’ve seen dry fly fishing in higher water so be prepared just in case.
Today will be 66 degrees with clouds and possible afternoon thundersotrms. Total rainfall during the day may be .5″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: May 5, 2025
Most of the rain skirted around us until late afternoon and into the evening. Then we got hit. All of the river flows are way up and off color. If you’re wading you’re going to have to get above the feeder streams. Definitely get above Oquaga and you’ll probably have to get above Cold Spring on the West too. If you’re floating then streamers are your main choice. The West Branch has peaked and is 3,820 cfs and beginning to drop. It should drop quickly to start and then the drop will level off a bit and slow down today. There is a lot of water coming in from the feeder streams. Yesterday was fishing really well until the heavy rain hit. That should pick back up over the next few days as we drop back to normal levels.
Today will be 60 degrees with clouds. Total rainfall during the day should be .06″. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: May 4, 2025
We had a few rain showers hit us yesterday but the rivers came through just fine. Most of the storms slid North of us. Today’s forecast is all over the place and changes every time we look. We will get rain. Right now it looks like a half inch spread out over the day. There may be some localized heavy rain but there is no way to predict where those cells will hit. If they slide around us again we should be in decent shape. Just keep an eye on the radar and check the weather reports. The wind will be low again compared to what we’ve been experiencing. We’re still seeing blue quills and Hendricksons on some river sections while others have transitioned to March Browns. There are still a lot of caddis around too.
Today will be 64 degrees with rain. Total rainfall during the day should be .5″ to .75″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the East.

Delaware River Report: May 3, 2025
We’re finally getting some more rain. Today doesn’t look bad with 1/4″ of rain and less wind then we’ve had in a while. The weather forecast over the next few days changes every time we check. There is a possibility of quite a bit of rain. They are throwing around the word “scattered” quite a bit. Just keep an eye on the radar and check the weather reports. We had some brief showers yesterday afternoon but the rivers actually dropped slightly and look good this morning. The river fished well overall on nymphs and dry flies. We’re still seeing blue quills and Hendricksons on some river sections while others have transitioned to March Browns. There are still a lot of caddis around offering some shots when the mayflies aren’t hatching.
Today will be 70 degrees with rain. Total rainfall during the day should be .25″ with another .25″ coming overnight. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: May 2, 2025
We had some blog log in issues yesterday but everything seems to be working well this morning. Today looks good with clouds and decent water levels and temps. The wind has been a problem this spring and will continue to be today as these fronts move through. Look for wind protected banks if it picks up in the afternoon. We’re seeing decent numbers of caddis in the morning followed by a mix of bugs in the afternoon. Olives, Hendricksons, and blue quills are making up the bulk of the mayflies but there are some March Browns beginning to show on some river sections.
Today will be 79 degrees with cloudy skies early clearing to partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. S stray shower is possible. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the South.

We had a few brief rain showers but not enough to noticeably bump the river flows. Water temps are starting off at a good place today which may push the hatches a little earlier. Hendricksons, blue quills, olives, and Quill Gordons are still all in play. Some river section are seeing the smaller #16 Hendricksons too. Caddis are still around in good numbers so watch for sporadic rising even before the mayflies hatch.

It took a while for the water temps to climb back up yesterday but once that happened everyone seemed to find fish. There are still a lot of caddis around mixed with Hendricksons, Blue Quills, olives, and some Quill Gordons. So far it was the best day this Spring. The water temps are in good shape this morning and today will be warmer. It looks like the rain should hold off until after dark but the total over night should only be .35″. We have water, the bugs are here and should keep getting better and better this week.
Today will be 82 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds Wind will be 10 – 20 mph from the South.

The river flows are dropping back nicely and everything looks good this morning. The cool night pushed the water temps down a bit but they will climb quickly with today’s weather. The caddis should be active with no wind. Olives, Hendricksons, Blue Quills, and some Quill Gordons should be on the water this afternoon. Yesterday was tough in the wind but there were some breaks. A few fish were landed on olive dries but nymphs and streamers put most of the fish in the net. Today looks so much better!

Delaware River Report: April 27, 2025
We were hit with more rain than expected and the river flows are up and there is color coming in from the feeder streams. The flows have peaked and are dropping this morning. Oquaga Creek hit 629 cfs yesterday afternoon and is down to 214 cfs this morning. The flow at Hale Eddy is down to 804 cfs but the West Branch is getting a lot water below that from the creeks. If you’re wading the best bet will be above the creeks in Stilesville. The flow didn’t bump there and should be clear at 274 cfs. Floating is fine. Streamer fishing should be good. The dry fly fishing is going to be tough today with the wind. Luckily we clear up tomorrow with 72 degrees, sunshine, and light wind.
Today will be 57 degrees with light rain in the morning. Wind will be 15 – 25 mph from the North with higher gusts possible.
