Delaware River Report: June 16, 2022

We were hit with thunderstorms around 4 am and it’s still raining a bit. The river flows are up and still climbing. The West Branch is off color out front. Click on the gauge links below for the latest flow information. This could be a rare streamer day for us. The flow at Stilesville hasn’t budged so that section of river should be clear an is 500 cfs. This may be a good day to fish streamers but there is always a shot at dries this time of year. Either way at least it’s not 85 degrees and sunny. The rain should stop this morning and we’ll be cooler at 73 degrees. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North.

The Mainstem at Lordville, East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and the Beaverkill at Cooks Falls all peaked close to 70 degrees yesterday. It’s time to give these sections a break until the temps drop again.

Delaware River Report: June 15, 2022

Yesterday was another clear, sunny day. People found some fish early but nymphing and wets were the best bet until the sun started to drop and the sulphurs hatched. Cahills, Isonychias, and olives have also been on the water. Caddis are active in the mornings and evenings. They are on the water sporadically so it’s definitely worth throwing a tan #18 caddis at sporadic fish. We should see some clouds in the afternoon today but any rain should hold off until after dark. Total rainfall should be negligible at .15″. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

The Mainstem at Lordville, East Branch at Fishs Eddy, and the Beaverkill at Cooks Falls all peaked at 68 yesterday afternoon and are starting off warmer than yesterday morning. It’s time to give these sections a break until the temps drop again.

Delaware River Report: June 14, 2022

Yesterday ended up being clear with sunshine in the afternoon. The bugs did come and we found fish rising. Today looks similar with the air temp hitting 80 degrees and sunshine. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North. Sulphurs have been hatching mid afternoon into dark with some cahills, Isonychias, and olives in the mix. Caddis have been around – especially in low light. Nymphing and swinging wets have both been productive earlier in the day.

The sun and hot temp may push the water temps up on certain stretches today. If you’re on lower river sections please check the water temp before fishing this afternoon.

Delaware River Report: June 13, 2022

We had a little rain in the late afternoon into dark but essentially there was no change to the river flows. The West Branch at Hale Eddy is up 45 cfs and is perfectly clear out front. The other river flows didn’t bump at all. Yesterday’s cloud cover helped push some bugs early and made the fish comfortable. Some spots had lighter hatches than what we’ve seen but the bugs and fish were there. Sulphurs are still making up the bulk of the mayflies on the water with some cahills, Isonychias, and olives in the mix. Caddis have been moving around in the mornings and evenings. We should hit 77 degrees today with cloud cover in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. Wind 5 – 10 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: June 12, 2022

We had a bit more afternoon sun than Wunderground led us to believe but people did find some decent dry fly action in the afternoon. The cool nights have helped keep the water temps in check and everything looks good this morning. Sulphurs made up the bulk of the mayflies n the water with some cahills, Isonychias, and olives in the mix. We’re stil seeing decent numbers of caddis in the bushes so definitely carry those. We should hit 71 degrees today with cloud cover. The rain total should be around .14″ with some thunderstorms possible. Wind 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: June 11, 2022

The river flows have dropped a bit from runoff and everything looks good this morning. We’re seeing a few bugs during the day but the best dry fly fishing has been late afternoon into dark. We’re seeing more Isonychias mixed with the sulphurs and Cahills. There have been some olives mixed in too. Wunderground is calling for 74 degrees with clouds moving in during the afternoon. Wind will be light and variable. Hopefully they have it correct.

Delaware River Report: June 10, 2022

The river flow are dropping back to normal as the runoff subsides. We’re coming off a cool night so the water temps are down a couple of degrees this morning. That’s a nice setup for the weekend. The wind made yesterday tough but people managed to find a few fish. We’re seeing more Isonychias mixed with the sulphurs and Cahills. Caddis are still a major player during the day. Today will be cool hitting 73 degrees with sunshine. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: June 9, 2022

We had some rain overnight and the river flows are up this morning. Hale Eddy is 780 cfs and climbing. Some of the feeders are adding color but it’s not fully across the river in Home Pool as of 7 am. We’ll keep an eye on it and update if anything changes. Click on the links below for the most up to date flow information. Wunderground only shows an additional .01″ of rain today so we should peak and settle a bit by late afternoon. We’ll see 68 degrees with wind 10 – 20 mph from the North. The lower West Branch is clear enough for fish to rise this morning. If you can hide from the wind you should see sulphurs, cahills, and olives. Some people will throw streamers today but nymphing is still a good option.

Delaware River Report: June 8, 2022

All of the river flows are climbing this morning from last night’s rain. The West Branch looks clear out front as of 5:30 this morning and is 640 cfs at Hale Eddy. The flow is still rising at Hale Eddy. If we see it go above a safe wading level or see color in the river we’ll post an update. Click on the links below for the most up to date flow information. The rain held off until yesterday afternoon but we did have the wind to contend with. Nymphing was the best bet but there were some dry fly shots. Sulphur and Cahill patterns have been very effective along with caddis. Today’s weather could push some olives too. Some river sections are still seeing March Browns, Gray Fox, Green Drakes, and Brown Drakes. It looks like any additional rain will come overnight. We should see sun and 74 degrees today. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: June 7, 2022

We have a front pushing in that should bring clouds with an occasional afternoon shower. It should be a good change after a few days of blazing sunshine. The air temp will hit 76 degrees with wind 10 – 20 from the South. If we’re lucky we’ll get some calm periods. If not look for areas that will block the wind for you. Sulphur and Cahill patterns have been very effective along with caddis. Today’s weather could push some olives too. Some river sections are still seeing March Browns, Gray Fox, Green Drakes, and Brown Drakes. Definitely have your spinner patterns for those bugs ready.

Today will be another sunny day but we have a chance of rain tomorrow. Even if the storms miss us some cloud cover will be nice. Today should fish like the last few with nymphing early and decent mayfly and caddis hatches as the sun drops. Sulphurs and Cahills have been our mainstay aside from the caddis. Some river sections are still seeing March Browns, Gray Fox, Green Drakes, and Brown Drakes. Definitely have your spinner patterns for those bugs ready. Today will be sunny with the air temp peaking at 79 degrees. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: June 5, 2022

The bright sunny day have fished a lot like Summer days. Nymphing early with good bugs as the sun drops. Yesterday evening was a good mix of Cahills, caddis, and Sulphurs. Plus some river sections are still seeing March Browns, Gray Fox, Green Drakes, and Brown Drakes. Things definitely improved when the wind dropped towards dark. Today will be another sunny one but the air temp will peak at 75 degrees. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North – so much better than yesterday.
The East Branch at Fishs Eddy and the Beaverkill at Cooks Falls peaked over 70 degrees yesterday. The Mainstem at Lordville came close at 69 degrees. It’s time to give these rivers a break until they cool back down.
