Delaware River Report: May 23, 2023
The water levels are the same as yesterday and the weather looks similar. Overall people had a decent day with caddis early and different mayflies depending in what river section they were on. We’re seeing more March Browns / Gray Fox on the Mainstem but they are staring to show on the West along with Sulpurs. Cahills are also out on some sections. The #16 Hendricksons are on their way on the way out but we are still seeing a few and fish are eating them. The spinners have been way more important than the duns this week.
Today will be sunny hitting 76 degrees. We may see a few clouds. wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: May 22, 2023
The wind made fishng tough during the day but dropped towards evening. We’re still seeing the odd #16 Hendrickson duns on the West Branch. The spinners are definitely more inportant at this point. We are seeing Light Cahills, sulphurs, some March Browns / Gray Fox, and olives working their way up the system. You’ll find more of those bugs on the Mainstem and East Branch but they are popping here and there on the West. We’ll shift totally towards those over the next few days. Caddis are still offering decent daytime shots if you’re patient and the wind is down.
We’ll hit 75 degrees today with sunshine and a few clouds. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North. Wunderground is calling for a slight chance of a stray rain shower or thunderstorm but that seems unlikely.

Delaware River Report: May 21, 2023
The rain soaked into the ground adding nothing to the river flows. The release from Canoonsville was bumped slightly to 450 cfs. We’re seeing some left over #16 Hendricksonsin the colder river sections but they are coming to an end. The spinners are still offering some fishing in the evening. Caddis have offered the most daytime shots at rising fish. We are seeing Light Cahills, sulphurs, some March Browns / Gray Fox, and olives working their way up the system.
We have clouds this morning but they should burn off leaving us with sunshine this afternoon. We’ll be warmer hitting 73 degrees with wind 10 – 20 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: May 20, 2023
The river flows throughout the system are basically the same as yesterday morning. The hatching should also be similar but maybe a little earlier in the day due to the cloud cover and potential light rain. Waning #16 Hendricksons are still around but we definitely saw fewer yesterday than previous days. The spinners are definitely still in play. Caddis have been great at times offering some daytime shots at rising fish. We are seeing Light Cahills, sulphurs, some March Browns / Gray Fox, and olives.
Today should be the first rain we’ve seen in a week. The total forecasted rainfall is only 1/4″ so it will be negligible. The cloud cover will be nice to see. the air temp will hit 69 degrees with wind 10 – 15 mph from the South.

The release from Cannonsville was cut back to 401 cfs. The small #16 Hendricksons are waning but we are still seeing some duns on the water. The spinners are definitely still in play. The caddis seem to be everywhere and we are seeing Light Cahills, sulphurs, some March Browns / Gray Fox, and olives. Everyone found targets yesterday afternoon. Today should be similar with a little more wind but also some clouds.
Today will be a mix of clouds and sunshine with the air temp hitting 70 degrees. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: May 18, 2023
The wind was rough yesterday but some people found fish eating on top. Nymphing was okay early but by mid afternoon there were some small hendricksons and caddis on the water. It surprised everyone. The lower river sections are seeing some March Browns, Gray fox, Light Cahills, and a few Sulphurs are starting. We’re coming off a very cold night so it may take a bit for the water temps to climb today.
It will hit 66 degrees today with sunshine. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South. That will feel like nothing after yesterday.

The wind has been tough all week, including yesterday. It did drop towards evening and we had Hendrickson spinners (#14 – 16) hit the water before dark. There are still a few Hendrickson duns on the water but the caddis (grannoms #16 & Hydropsyche #16 – 18) have been the mainstay during the day. There are some March Browns and Cahills beginning to show up on more river sections too.
We have good cloud cover this morning but should see more sunshine in the afternoon. The air temp will be much cooler hitting 54 degrees. Wind will be 10 – 20 mph from the North

Delaware River Report: May 16, 2023
The release from Cannonsville was dropped to 425 cfs. The spill from the reservoirs is over. The wind was tough yesterday but some people found fish on caddis (tan #18 and a few grannoms) in the afternoon. There were a fair number of March Browns spotted on some sections. The evening had strong Hendrickson spinner falls (a mix of #16 and #14). Today looks like similar conditions so it should fish the same. The wind will be up slightly but looks like it drops in the evening.
It’s cool again this morning but we’ll hit 76 degrees today. Mostly sunshine with a few clouds. The wind will be with us again 10 – 20 mph from the West.

Delaware River Report: May 15, 2023
The release from Cannonsville is 600 cfs. The spill is 10 cfs. The spill is over for both reservoirs. The wind and sunshine were unkind yesterday but people did find fish. Caddis are just about everywhere. Some river sections are still seeing small Hendricksons and Hendrickson spinners. The March Browns still seem more sporadic than normal but it may be worth blind casting some in the riffles. Light Cahills are showing up here and there so have a few in your box just in case.
We’re oming off a cool night but it should warm up quickly Today will be warmer than yesterday hitting 82 degrees with a “plentiful” sunshine. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North.

The release from Cannonsville is 600 cfs. The spill is 111 cfs. The rivers are at good levels for floating and wading. We had a few clouds roll in yesterday afternoon. Some river sections has flushes of Hendricksons while others saw more caddis on the water. Hendrickson spinners put some fish in the boat towards evening despite the wind. the march Browns seem to be even more sporadic than usual but we are seeing some.
Today will be a little cooler hitting 65 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds. Count on more sun. Wind will be 10 – 20 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: May 13, 2023
The river flows have dropped significantly since yesterday. Pepacton has stopped spilling and the East Branch flow at Harvard is 277 cfs. The release from Cannonsville is 600 cfs. The spill is 280 cfs. There are now a lot more wade opportunities throughout the system and the West and Mainstem are still in good shape for floating. We’re still seeing some hendricksons and apple caddis on some river sections. There are a few march browna and light cahills on the warmer river sections. Definitely hendrickson spinners on the West Branch. Apple caddis and tan caddis were offering sme daytime dry fly action for people who found them on the water.
Today will be warm again with the air temp hitting 76 degrees. If Wunderground is to be believed we should see some clouds this morning with more moving in during the afternoon. That’s certainly a welcome change and should help the day time dry fly fishing. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: May 12, 2023
The release from Cannonsville is steady at 600 cfs. The spill is 557 cfs. The East Branch flow at Harvard is dropped to 500 cfs. Both tailwaters have decent wade opportunities (More on the East Branch but th West Branch is okay in spots). The Beaverkill and Willowemoc are in great shape for wading. We’d definitely like to see more clouds but it’s been sunny and warm for quite a few days now. That’s pushed the mayfly hatching later into the evening. During the day look for spots with caddis activity and be patient looking for sporadic risers. Some river sections still have blue quills, apple caddis, and hendricksons. The warmer river sections are seeing sporadic march browns and a few cahills.
