Delaware River Report: June 7, 2022

We have a front pushing in that should bring clouds with an occasional afternoon shower. It should be a good change after a few days of blazing sunshine. The air temp will hit 76 degrees with wind 10 – 20 from the South. If we’re lucky we’ll get some calm periods. If not look for areas that will block the wind for you. Sulphur and Cahill patterns have been very effective along with caddis. Today’s weather could push some olives too. Some river sections are still seeing March Browns, Gray Fox, Green Drakes, and Brown Drakes. Definitely have your spinner patterns for those bugs ready.

The East Branch at Fishs Eddy, the Mainstem at Lordville and the Beaverkill at Cooks Falls peaked around 68 degrees yesterday. It’s time to give these rivers a break until they cool back down.

Delaware River Report: June 6, 2022

Today will be another sunny day but we have a chance of rain tomorrow. Even if the storms miss us some cloud cover will be nice. Today should fish like the last few with nymphing early and decent mayfly and caddis hatches as the sun drops. Sulphurs and Cahills have been our mainstay aside from the caddis. Some river sections are still seeing March Browns, Gray Fox, Green Drakes, and Brown Drakes. Definitely have your spinner patterns for those bugs ready. Today will be sunny with the air temp peaking at 79 degrees. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the South.

Delaware River Report: June 5, 2022

The bright sunny day have fished a lot like Summer days. Nymphing early with good bugs as the sun drops. Yesterday evening was a good mix of Cahills, caddis, and Sulphurs. Plus some river sections are still seeing March Browns, Gray Fox, Green Drakes, and Brown Drakes. Things definitely improved when the wind dropped towards dark. Today will be another sunny one but the air temp will peak at 75 degrees. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North – so much better than yesterday.
The East Branch at Fishs Eddy and the Beaverkill at Cooks Falls peaked over 70 degrees yesterday. The Mainstem at Lordville came close at 69 degrees. It’s time to give these rivers a break until they cool back down.

Delaware River Report: June 4, 2022

Yesterday was another bright sunny day. It was a beautiful day to be on the water but a few clouds would have helped the fishing. Nymphing was better in the morning with some dry fly action in the evening. There were a few spots with active caddis in the afternoon. Caddis, march browns, gray fox, sulphurs, cahills, brown drakes, and green drakes are all on the water. We’ve had decent spinner falls in the last week so definitely keep that box handy. Today will be another sunny one but the air temp will peak around 74 degrees. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: June 3, 2022

The river flows have dropped a bit since yesterday but everything is in good shape. The overcast sky and cooler air temps have helped the water temps drop a few degrees. Hopefully we see some mid day caddis in the sun. Most of the mayfly activity has been in the evening into dark with some shots in the afternoon. Caddis, march browns, gray fox, sulphurs, cahills, brown drakes, and green drakes. Definitely have your coffin flies. We’ll hit 75 degrees today with sunshine and wind 10 – 15 mph from the North.

Delaware River Report: June 2, 2022

We were hit with some decent storms last night but the rivers look good this morning. The West Branch at Hale Eddy is 726 cfs and dropping. We’re still at a decent level for floating and wading. The West is clear out front and the East Branch looked clear in Hancock at 6 am. Most of the rain must have soaked into the ground. Today we have a slight chance of some rain but should just see clouds with the air temp hitting 76 degrees. Wind will be 5 – 10 mph from the North. Caddis, march browns, gray fox, sulphurs, cahills, brown drakes, and green drakes.
The Mainstem at Lordville, East Branch at Fishs Eddy and Beaverkill at Cooks Falls all came close to 70 degrees yesterday despite the cooler weather. It’s still time to give these rivers a break until we get a serious cool down.

Delaware River Report: June 1, 2022

The release from Cannonsville was increased to 500 cfs. That’s not enough to be noticeable on the water but it is something. Yesterday was another hotbright day pushing most of the activity to low light times. Today will be cooler hitting 77 degrees with good cloud cover. There is a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Wunderground is only calling for 1/4″ of rain during the day so we’ll have to watch how the storms track. Caddis, march browns, gray fox, sulphurs, cahills, brown drakes, and green drakes. Today’s weather may push some olives too. The cloud cover may also help the hatching start earlier in the afternoon.
The Mainstem at Lordville, East Branch at Fishs Eddy and Beaverkill at Cooks Falls all peaked over 70 degrees yesterday and are starting off hot this morning. It’s time to give these rivers a break until we get a serious coo down.

Delaware River Report: May 31, 2022

There was a quick pulse release from Cannonsville yesterday but the West Branch flow is already dropping back this morning. It should settle back in the 450 cfs range by this afternoon. That was likely done to keep the river temp down on the Mainstem. Today looks like another hot and bright one with the air temp hitting 89 degrees. Wind will be 10 – 15 mph from the North. There are a lot of different bugs on the water now with a few species of caddis, march browns, gray fox, sulphurs, cahills, brown drakes, and green drakes. The bright sun may push the fish underneath early so wet flies and nymphs may be the best way to start today.
The Mainstem at Lordville, East Branch at Fishs Eddy and Beaverkill at Cooks Falls will all likely hit 70 degrees today. Check the water temps with your thermometers this afternoon.

Yesterday was bright and sunny so there were fish early and late. Midday we had some caddis but most mayfly activity was in low light. The sun is already out this morning so we’re looking at similar conditions today. We’ll hit 85 degrees with 5 – 10 mph wind from the South. There are a lot of different bugs on the water now with a few species of caddis, march browns, gray fox, sulphurs, cahills, brown drakes, and green drakes. It seems like most fish are being landed on caddis.
The Mainstem at Lordville, East Branch at Fishs Eddy and Beaverkill at Cooks Falls all have the potential to hit 70 degrees today. Check the water temps with your thermometers this afternoon.

Delaware River Report: May 29, 2022

Once again the storms missed us and the rivers are starting off this morning about the same levels as yesterday. There are a lot of different bugs on the water now with a few species of caddis, march browns, gray fox, sulphurs, cahills, and green drakes. A few brown drakes were spotted last night too. We should see more sunshine today with a high of 78 degrees. Wind will be light and variable. Generally that means caddis during the day with the mayflies mostly hatching in the afternoon into dark..

Delaware River Report: May 28, 2022

Most of yesterday’s storms slid around us and the rivers are in good shape this morning. We had some rain that bumped the flows but not enough to matter. Today the are calling for 1/10th of an inch. We may see some thunderstorms in the afternoon so keep an eye on the radar and be prepared. Hopefully they follow the same path as yesterday’s storm. Caddis, March Browns, Gray Fox, Cahills, and sulphurs are on the water. The dark #16 Brachycentrus caddis are out and we are seeing some of the big Psilotetra caddis. A few Green Drakes are out but it’s not quite a hatch yet. It will hit 68 degrees with wind 10 – 15 mph from the North.

The wind was unkind yesterday but there were enough breaks that the bugs came out and fish were landed. Caddis, March Browns, Gray Fox, Cahills, and sulphurs are on the water. Tan #18 caddis seemed to be the most productive bug in the afternoon. The fish are starting to like the cahills. We have good cloud cover this morning. The air temp should hit 70 degrees with wind 10 – 15 mph from the South. There is a potential of some thunderstorms in the afternoon so be prepared.
